Media Helping Media (MHM) currently has more than 220 free training resources available to download, adapt, and use. The material is designed for four main groups:
- Those starting off in journalism
- Established journalists wanting to improve their skills
- Managers running the newsroom and business side of a media operation
- Journalism trainers and lecturers designing and delivering courses for colleges and universities
All the material shared on MHM has been used in some form or another in the training of journalists and media managers around the world for more than 20 years.
1: New journalists
Our basic journalism section contains more than 50 articles which are designed to be used as personal learning tools. This could be useful if you are a journalism student or have just started as a journalist and want to improve your skills. Those starting off in journalism should also familiarise themselves with our 10 articles on editorial ethics, which includes topics such as accuracy and integrity.
2: Senior journalists
For senior journalists we have more than 50 articles covering advanced journalism. There are also 10 articles on investigative journalism, and more than 20 editorial scenarios which are based on real-life ethical dilemmas.
3: Media managers
Our media management section has more than a dozen articles covering topics such as how to implement newsroom convergence and how to set up a digital first strategy. We have a strategy section with more than 20 articles covering topics such as setting up a sales strategy and the value of audience research.
4: Trainers and lecturers
The 50 lessons and 10 modules are for trainers and lecturers to adapt for their own particular training needs. The lessons are outlines for half-day or day-long courses about a topic which has been covered in an article on MHM. The modules are outlines for six-week courses and contain links to background reading material on MHM.
