The author, John Allen, started in newspapers as a reporter and then a sub-editor. He joined the BBC in 1972 in the radio newsroom. John became Executive Editor of BBC Radio News in 1994. He collected a Sony award for BBC radio coverage of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
